Steps to be followed in the Yoruba religion:

Every person should rely on Ifá, so that he can reach a balance with his destiny on earth and this allows you to create in your life with a building of successes without limits, full of all the most important fortunes that exist, which are:Ire Aiku- Longevity, Ire Oko / Aya- Husband or Wife, Omo- Sons or daughters, Ire Ajé- economic wealth, Ire Gbogbo- Complete Fortune (who possesses the previous four possesses all the fortunes to which Ire Gbogbo refers. Olodumare has a reign for all his sons or daughters.

Consulting with the Babaláwo for a definition of your destiny through your Odù Ifá.At this point I want you to know that Baba Áwo or Babaláwo or as more is known, it is not everyone who has the Ifa initiation is one who has received the training and experience, knowledge to be, meanwhile, is only one student Ifa.!
Receiving Orunmila’s hand (Owo Ifa kan o Isefa)
Receiving the Ile Ori (We all must have the Ile Ori).It is very important that we all receive the Ile Orí. “Ori Kowa rami se iran ran” (Ori is the one who allows me to see beyond).
Receiving your respective Èsú Odara.
Receiving the necessary Òrìsà like: Egbe, Orun, Ogun, Igba Aje, Isaegun they are necessary for a good development. Be careful not to have too many Orishas who do not even exist.Just go by your Odu Ifa and received what it say exactly.
Receiving the Ori Orisha or being Initiated. Whoever goes to Ifa (Itefá) does not have to necessarily be crowned but, if you do Ifá(Itefa) a person can receive any Òrìsà even after the Itefa but can not be initiated in other Òrìsà.
Receiving Ifá(Itefá) ceremony, men and women, becoming in Baba ni Áwo o Iya ni Ifá  (Babalawo e Iyanifá)

This is basically a guide for all men and women who want to be initiated into the Yoruba religion. We all have the right to receive Ifa; with Ifa we correct the defect of creation as the teleology of receiving such spirituality. The Iwa Pele (good character), in the first place, makes us better Yorubas. I want to clarify that Ile Ori is extremely important in order for all of us to achieve a good alignment with our destiny.I emphasize: receiving Ifá, Èsú, Ògún, Ilé Òri!

Note: For those who have already received Ifa, either Awo Ifa or Isefa (Hands of Ifa), it is important to take into account Ifa’s festivity (birthday), in order to perform the accompanying ceremonies. This is extremely important!

Yorùbá Calender for September 2025 Osù Owewe
These are the days to attend all the Òrìsà
I.Aku Ose Ògún,Osoosí, Egbe

4-8-12-16-20-24-28.

II.Jakuta Sàngó, Aganju & Òya

1-5-9-13-17-21-25-29.

III.Ojó Ègùngún,Iyàmi,Òbàtàlá,Sànpànná

IV.Ose Èsú,Òsun,Òlòkùn,Yémòjá,Ifá,Aje

3-7-11-15-19-23-27.

NOTE: The days of caring for Òrìsà are these on the calendar above, first we have Ose Ifa every 5 days, after Isan Ifa Ifa every 9 days, which are grouped Babaláwos friends and share and exchange ideas, pray to Ifa..etc and after Isan come ìtàdógún Ifa every 17 days, this is deeper than the previous ones, Babalawos, neighbors, Followers..etc meet, here we talk about ethics and moral problems are solved in specific areas, all pray to Ifa and is celebrated more independent of traditional festivals regardless of the traditional festivals dedicated to them.

On October 4, the day of Òrúnmìlà is NOT celebrated, as they usually do in the Afro-Cuban diaspora, but rather, the day of Saint Francis of Assisi, which is a Catholic saint, within the Catholic religion, which is a completely different and without any link with the Yoruba religion. This celebration was adopted because of the religious syncretism used by our ancestors and as an effect, this custom, even with other Òrìsà, has transcended to the present day by some Òlòrìsà (practitioner of the Yoruba religion) due to ignorance or habit, without wondering, without stopping to think or realize that this is no longer necessary, because slavery was abolished hundreds of years ago and, we are no longer slaves, we are free to worship and venerate Olódùmarè and the Òrìsà without any secrecy or mystery. The Ifá festival takes place every year in June, in Òké Itase, Ile Ifé, Nigeria.

Proverb of the month:

"....Ifa reads our minds, the Irunmoles know who are the bad and good people, but also those who do good; Olorun knows who they are" (Ifa rinu mole rika Eni ton se rere Olorun mo)

"... Knowledge is the most precious thing we have, and where we nurture it is fundamental, such that, you grow staggered or fall with all the force that gravity exerts on a supine illusion of knowledge..."

Warning:

I want to warn the people who, due to ignorance, have been ripped off by those pretending to be religious persons to be very careful before taking any step into this religion Yoruba, and to seek information about how this religion works. After talking to many people, I realized that there are certain issues which need to be clarified:

Èsú (also known as Eshu, Elegbara). The persons who deliver Esu in this religion are the Babalawos. They have the authority to do that and they know the secrets and have the knowledge. In the process of receiving Isefá (one hand of Orunmila) the person get an Odu ifa (Sign) after this, by this Odu we can consecrate the Esu Odara. There are Esu by Odu Ifa which are delivered on their own. Each deity is separate and it is not necessary to be delivered in an initiation.
The santeros (Santeria priests), Iyalorisas or Babalorisas have other important duties in the religion, not including the delivery of the warriors(Lukumi). Santeros can deliver and crown or initiated any Òrìsá which they have, Sàngó, Yemoja, Osun, Elegbara, etc. In the Yoruba culture There're not Santeros or santeras.I speak about this in the Blog. They should initiate only in the Orisha that they are initiated; to give an Ase you have to have it.
The definition of our Òrìsá , that is, our guardian angel, can be achieved by a Priest of Ifa or a Babalorisa; although the most common way is through the initiation. Every Òrìsá to be received, the definition of the guardian angel and the steps to follow in the religion must be consulted with Orunmila or Ifa. The Babaláwos are the priests who guide people in their predestination or destiny on the earth. Orunmila is the undecipherable witness of wisdom.
The Ilekes or necklaces represent the Òrìsá It's the flag or representation of the Òrìsà which is given to the person together with the Òrìsà he/she is receiving; I emphasize the word “receiving” because there are some people who receive the Òrìsà but are not crowned in any of these cases of receiving the Ilekes are correct. The wrong thing to do is to give a bunch of necklaces without any reason; there are cases in which the person doesn’t know nothing about their destiny or consult Ifa or Orunmila in order to know who his/her guardian angel is, or what Òrìsà have to receive..etc. They are people who receive or give a bunch of necklaces of various Òrìsà which any real objective. As I previously said, the Ilekes are a flag representing the Òrìsà. Do not confuse Ide with Ilekes. Ide is something different, The Ide of the Òrìsà are handed when the person is consecrated to one Òrìsà or in case of emergencies; and that of Ifa when Orunmila is received. Although in case of health problems, an Ide of Ifa can be placed in order to save the person from Iku (death).
To those who have been threatened by their godmothers or godfathers with doing negative religious work, do not be afraid, good will always prevail over evil. In the creation, evil was established in order to create a balance, but evil does not come before good. Thus, there are Orishas in charge of making good prevail and, of course, there are moments when sacrifices have to be made to them in order to achieve our victory. On the other hand, those who perform evil actions should know that these actions reflect back to the wrongdoers if they are not prepared; the curse will catch up with them. Thus, persons who perform evil actions and use sorcery to hurt other people are making a mistake. In fact, those who worship the Orishas in Africa consider it immoral to use the power of the Orishas to cause any harm. The power of the Orishas is sometimes invoked for protection and justice, but it should never be invoked for revenge. Forgiveness is an essential element in the process of living in harmony with the Orishas. Those who associate the use of curses with personal power have misinterpreted the true nature of Ifa.
From Ifa’s point of view, the end of the world, the end of the earth is not going to happen; it is a lie. The truth is that life ends when we die and go somewhere else in Orun (Heavens), Ile Ife, Oore Ife, etc. Other lives emerge. Spirit, rebirth, live and death: this is the cosmic cycle of life. The earth is not going anywhere and nothing will happen to it.Ifa says:"Igba Nlo,Igba Nbo,Ile Aye O re bi Kan" (“Time goes, time comes, but the earth goes nowhere”)
It is important to be careful when receiving Orishas; many Orishas that do not even exist are being delivered. This is happening more frequently among the Olorisas than among the Ogberis (persons who are not consecrated, visitors). I could mention about eight of them, but this would hurt people who have faith in something that do not exist. Find as much information as possible before taking any step into the Yoruba religion.

They ask me over the composition of the hand of Ifá. I wrote in the page of consulting over this theme, but I will clarify some doubts still exist about this. A hand of Ifá needs 16 ikines(palm tree seeds),same thing for either a male or female ; this for the Odú Mejis are two and represent the ovaries of a women is a huge mistake, if this were so the women who does not have a Odú Méji like Odu in her hand of Ifá has only one ovaries? The consultations are always done with 16 ikines not with the two or the one mixed with the Ifá of the godfather; everyone has their own hand of Ifá.

Syncretism; still many practitioners continue mixing until today the Catholic and Palo with the Yoruba religion, sending the people to baptize before be initiate in Ocha or Ifa and also to scratch in the Palo Mayombe as a requirement to be initiated in Ocha or Ifa And everything is false. It is total free will of everyone to do it but it is neither necessary, each one is a different practice, different religion.

More Totally false things, such as:

  • There is an Orunmila in Nigeria and another one in Cuba.
  • You have to thank death everyday in the morning.
  • Ifá went to Cuba with slavery and nothing remained in Nigeria.
  • The true Ifá is in Cuba.
  • There is a female Elegua which cannot be mentioned (FALSE). The real name is Elegbara or Esu, and he is not a female ORISA. They talk about some offerings that I do not know from where it come from such as: Sugar to Esu.Elegbara was nicknamed of Esu due to his very important functions in the process of creation and after it. Means: Powerful man

  • You have to be baptized in order to be initiated in an Òrisà or Ifá (I am speechless)
  • They speak Ifá according to thoughts or proverbs invented by anyone, or refer to experiences lived by someone who had the Odu, without using the verses (Eses). They do this without taking into account the destiny and free will of the person who had the Odu, nor the ideas of philosophers and non-philosophers.
  • They advise on behalf of Ifá that a compass be kept in a pocket to find directions and a windmill in front of your house. (In Odu as Osa Irete and I do not remember the other one of the compass).
  • The syncretism is ridiculously used nowadays; they say to a goddaughter for example, “You are the daughter of the Caridad del Cobre”, instead of Òsun in the middle of an Owo ‘fa kan (Hand of Ifá) and that is it.
  • They consecrate one Ocha for another, each Orisa has a specific initiation, Ògún, Oba, etc.
  • Delivering Òrìsàs that do not exist (I reserve the names)
  • They also refer to the Orishas in two genders, masculine and feminine. It is not so.
  • There are those who throw the opele at the door of the house to get an Ifa Odu to start the day, this is not genuine, what you should do is a regular query and you will know exactly what is coming.

The above list could be much longer; I will continue adding items to it as I remember them or when they come up as prophecies in my daily work. I suggest everyone to get www.ifadafa.com This application will be very useful for all those who visit places to consult with Ifá and those who do not completely trust. May Olodumare and the Irunmoles bless you!

Search Ifa, come closer to Ifa, lean on Ifa. To read more articles go to the Blog

I hope that the abovementioned explanations are useful and I will further clarify other important issues as they come to me. I like to help as much as I can.

Distance is not an obstacle, the consultation and rituals will have the same effectiveness!
